Fire & EMS Cadet Program
Program Overview:
The Fire & EMS Cadet Program offers a unique opportunity for high school juniors and seniors, aged 16 and above by September 1st, to engage in hands-on learning and community service within the realm of emergency services. This program is designed to cultivate leadership skills, instill a sense of responsibility, and provide practical experience in firefighting and emergency medical services.
Eligibility Criteria:

Age Requirement: Participants must be high school juniors or seniors, aged 16 years or older by September 1st.

Academic Standards: Prospective cadets must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 both at the time of enrollment and throughout the duration of the program.

Membership Obligation: Cadets are required to secure and uphold membership at a volunteer fire department or rescue squad for the duration of their enrollment in the program.
Program Logistics:

Location: The program is hosted at the Forrest Career and Technology Center.

Transportation: Complimentary transportation to and from the Forrest Career and Technology Center is arranged for all cadets, ensuring convenient access to program activities.
Application Process:
Interested candidates can apply by completing the online application and submitting it via email to volunteer@stmarysmd.com. Upon receipt of the application, candidates will be contacted by the St. Mary’s County Government Fire & EMS Recruitment Coordinator.
Coordination and Support:
The Recruitment Coordinator collaborates closely with St. Mary’s County Public Schools to verify academic eligibility and facilitate seamless integration of students into the program. Additionally, the Coordinator offers personalized assistance to help cadets navigate the process of joining a Fire Department or Rescue Squad, ensuring compliance with program requirements.
